Drums Instructor and Owner of OTC Music School
Dustin Rehrig
Drum Instructor & Owner
Dustin has been playing and performing on drums since the age of 3 years! He always wanted to open a music school where students would not only learn how to play their instrument, but also learn how to apply their knowledge. At OTC Music School, students are taught by working professionals how to perform onstage as well as learning the ropes of touring and making music as a professional musician.
At the age of 3 Dustin hit the stage with his family band. Singing and playing “air drums” while his father Dave played the real ones! Obviously being in his family genes for hundreds of years he followed the musical footsteps of his father and became a drummer and singer. Dave, Dustin’s father, taught him the foundation of drumming and singing before he went on to take professional lessons. Dave started out performing with his brothers and father in “The Rehrig Family” band back in the early 1970s. This eventually turned into the Twitty Fever Band which he ran until retirement in 1989.
In 1995 Dustin started “DDR Entertainment, LLC” (currently in its 25th year) decided to get the band rolling again and by convincing his father to sing, only sing and “I’ll do everything else”.
At last Twitty Fever was reborn and became one of the most popular regional country music cover bands also performing a tribute to the late great Conway Twitty. The band consisted of his father, mother, brother, wife, daughter and 3 uncles…. that’s a lot of Rehrigs!! This continued on before Dustin himself retired the band in 2017. While performing with Twitty Fever, Dustin spent 10 years teaching 9th through 12th grade at a vocational education school where he received his teaching degree from Temple University.
In 2006 Dustin retired from teaching to pursue a full time career in the music business. It was here where his Uncle Bill Rehrig (Dave’s oldest brother) took him under his wing. Bill was a highly respected manager and musician living in Nashville, TN at the time. He managed Dolly Parton, Jerry Reed and spent over 2 decades with Eddie Rabbitt until Eddie’s passing in 1998. Bill’s career fascinated Dustin and his passion for working with the stars. This is when Dustin jumped feet first into starting an artist management career. Spending many years working with Nashville based record labels as well as artist management companies. This lasted for several years before leaving Nashville to spend more time with his wife and daughter back in PA.
Once back home his close friend Chris asked him if he would want to do a mini run with “Get The Led Out” a Led Zeppelin tribute band from Philly that he was working with. Chris’s father, KC from “KC Saturn Systems” introduced Dustin to the pro-audio side of the business in the early 90’s. From running consoles, lights and building/wiring stages he taught him everything he needed to know about it. This led Dustin down another path of becoming an audio engineer for many bands across the country and world including spending over 10 years with National recording artist “Blood Sweat and Tears”!!
Once Chris convinced him to take the run the rest is history. Dustin started out as the monitor engineer, moving quickly to tour manager and eventually artist manager for “Get The Led Out”. The band was in its infancy in 2008 when he joined performing only 6 shows a year. 3 years later when Dustin started managing he turned the act into a multi million dollar touring machine performing 135 shows a year.
He wore several hats including, management, tour management, merch sales, social media building, percussion parts, monitor engineer, bus owner, bus driver and well you get the picture. He did it all and without mercy he rose them to the top.
Unfortunately he parted ways with the band in the summer of 2020 after 12 years of dedication. Sometimes things happen for a reason.
While managing GTLO he also managed several other tribute bands throughout the years as well. Now turning the page he just signed a “Bruce Springsteen” tribute band in Jan 2020 named “Bruce in the USA“!! Several other acts are currently on their way to his artist roster.
In 2011 he purchased Prevost entertainer coaches which is where the bands live while touring. Each one consisting of 12 bunks, front and rear galleries along with a kitchen and restroom. He leased these busses to artists around the country for 8 years before selling all of them and hanging up his mechanic hat.
Everyone knew he would be up to something else and that’s where OTCMS comes to life! He always wanted to open a music school where students would learn how to perform onstage and learn the ropes of touring and making music a profession.
Dustin leased the building in Palmerton, PA 2 days before the country shutdown for Covid-19. During this time he was furloughed at Penn’s Peak where he is the full time production manager, handling all the audio/lighting needs for visiting artists. Without bands traveling there wasn’t any work for his own bands which left him jobless.
His wife, daughter, father, step mother and sometimes brother and wife along with other friends built this entire store making his dream a reality. Working tirelessly for months on end making it happen. Slated for a late November 2020 opening this is a huge adventure!
During all this time somehow, Dustin met his future wife Beth in 1996 at a mall in Lehighton, PA. It was love at first site and they never looked back! Married in 2001 and had their daughter April around the same time. Beth was working full time for Aetna Insurance before Dustin needed her more in 2015. Its since that time that Beth retired from Aetna and became an integral part of Dustin’s companies. She runs the day to day business operations along with accounting and payroll. When they met she wasn’t in the music business at all but managed to learn tour managing, merchandise managing, merch selling and became an excellent lighting director. She’s was the LD for Penn’s Peak.
Now along comes April! The apple didn’t fall far from the tree as everyone knows she’s her fathers daughter! Multi talented in many ways. Her charm, personality and intelligence light up the room along with her many musical talents! April will be co-owner of OTCMS running day to day operations. She’s also starting a special needs program at our school. At an early age she developed a love for special needs children and wants to provide opportunities for everyone at our school. Along with Dustin and Beth, April works at Penn’s Peak as a stage tech and monitor engineer. Look for more great things from April as she navigates her young life through her musical and business journeys.
